The excitement round these parts is building up to a fever level. In case you don’t know there is a new Star Wars film coming out in just under a month. I know they have kept it quiet. This time though it is a new Star Wars coming from Disney, not George Lucas. This is a good thing and one of the reasons why is that Disney know how to merchandise the shit out of a good thing. Which leads me to the release of STAR WARS™ Battlefront™, EA DICE’s new take on the classic multiplayer shooter, set in the Star Wars Universe and its incredible! The game was released here in the UK yesterday and here are my first impressions.
We are nearing the end of The Taken Kings Story missions and we start this part with a trip to the moon to collect part of Crota’s soul from the crystal destroyed in The Dark Below quest line. All seems to be going well, a little too well. Bungie throw in a new twist to the end of the mission that shows that they are prepared to turn Destiny tried and tested formula on its head in order to make a memorable mission.
Continuing with my playthrough of the new Destiny expansion, The Taken King and its on to the next mission. Hunter Vanguard, Cayde needs me to get the stealh crive he hid in the Cosmorome. The only snag its a the top of huge space rocket and the Fallen and the Taken are after it as well. Sounds like an average day in Destiny then.
After an unexpected 18GB patch download, that PSN handled pretty well for a change. It was time at about 22:00 last night to get stuck into the new Destiny expansion. I have mentioned in my last post about the many changes brought in for year two. The major change for The Taken King expansions is something that was missing from year one. That feature is storytelling!
Take a look at the opening to the game in the video below (about 17 mins in). The opening cinematic is more epic than the entire of Destiny. It actually explains more story that the entire of Destiny as well. Then, we cut to Phobos and a Cabal base under attack from a mysterious force. This opening to The Taken King brings back the Halo days for me. Wandering into the unknown from set piece to set piece until all hell breaks loose and you are fighting to survive. Well done Bungie, this is the game I wanted to play!
So Metal Gear Solid V is finally here and it goes without saying that it is a pretty special game. It seems fitting that Hideo Kojima’s final Metal Gear game is the greatest realisation of the tag “Tactical Espionage Operations”. MGS V is hands down the greatest stealth game ever made, it may even be one of the greatest games ever made.
There was concern from the die-hard fans of the Metal Gear series that Kojima’s choice to take the series Open-World was a big mistake. In fact it turns out it was the best decision for the Metal Gear franchise. MGS V gives players several huge open-world enviroments to play in and by play, I literally mean it. The freedom given to you to perform missions is entirely down to the player. With hardly any hand holding or large map pointers, objective lists. The Phantom Pain treats you like the character you are meant to be, a legendary soldier. You are given an ultimate objective to achieve and dropped into the world with the weapons you have selected and thats it. How you achieve is them up to you.
With another Riddler challenge won, Batman needs to head over to the heavily armed Founders island, where Scarecrow and Arkham Knight have made their base of operations. First task is to disable the Ground to Air missile launchers. Just as well he has a tank!
After a break from posting these, basically because I was grinding the hell out of Riddler Trophies, Batman is back and ready to finish his walkthrough! In Part 20, Its time to hunt down more of those 243 Ridder trophies. As if Batman hasn’t got more pressing things to do like stop the homicdal maniacs from destroying the entire city. Why Riddler when I get my hands on you!
Getting back to stopping Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight from flooding the whole of Gotham with Crane’s latest fear Toxin. Batman has found an unlikely ally in Poison Ivy. With her help she can use the ancient trees of Gotham to absorb the toxin in the event of the Cloudburst being detonated. Except the Arkham Knight’s Militia have been sent to stop them.
Its time for more detective work, as Batman tries to find out who or what the mutated bat-like creature, soaring baove Gotham, actually is. Maybe the discovery of a lab, may lead to the answers and hopefully a cure…
