What is it with No Man’s Sky

I have been searching for a particular game for a long time. Way back in my Acorn Electron days, I though it would be fantastic if I had a game that mashed Elite and Strykers Run. Then I had the same feeling when I got my PC and wished there was a way to mash X-Wing and Dark Forces together to make the ultimate space game. I wanted to explore the surface of a planet, jump in my trusty spaceship and blast off to the next galaxy for more adventure. Frontier: Elite II came close but nothing has really given me the game I wanted since I was a kid.

Then came a new hope in 2013, a small indie company based out of Guildford, made up of ex EA employees, called Hello Games revealed to the world what they had been working on...

Destiny launches new refer-a-friend scheme

DestinyTK

If you told me that this week I would be writing about a Destiny referal program… well to be honest I may not of been that surprised. Destiny got good with the launch of The Taken King in September, then it got dirty with arrival of micro-transactions for emotes. Now it seems it wants to turn you into a digital pusher. This feels a little weird…

Star Wars Battlefront – New Free Maps and Modes coming

Battlefront%2520banner

A week after its release and my love affair with Star Wars Battlefront shows no end at present. Away from my feelings on Battlefront, other people are not too happy with the game. Gamer’s are stating that the game is too shallow and the lacks any feel of progression and many of the modes are not interesting. On top of this is the shameless way EA have gone about promoting the Season Pass for this. To the degree that the “Season Pass” is an option on the menu of the game. EA/DICE have been quick to respond to this any hopefully but the player base at ease.

Destiny Update – Year One Exotics coming back

DestinyTK

One of the toughest parts of The Taken King was watching all of those wonderful Year One exotic guns turn to crap overnight. Including my beloved Mida Multi Tool. Only a few Year One exotics were given new Year Two updates and that meant that for many there beloved guns were now useless.

Not anymore! Bungie annoucned over the weekend that in the December update, many Year One exotics are coming back to the game with full Year Two updates. Included in the update will be:

STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ – New Gameplay – Out Now

Battlefront%2520banner

The excitement round these parts is building up to a fever level. In case you don’t know there is a new Star Wars film coming out in just under a month. I know they have kept it quiet. This time though it is a new Star Wars coming from Disney, not George Lucas. This is a good thing and one of the reasons why is that Disney know how to merchandise the shit out of a good thing. Which leads me to the release of STAR WARS™ Battlefront™, EA DICE’s new take on the classic multiplayer shooter, set in the Star Wars Universe and its incredible! The game was released here in the UK yesterday and here are my first impressions.

Destiny: The Taken King – Lost to Light and Regicide

DestinyTK

We are nearing the end of The Taken Kings Story missions and we start this part with a trip to the moon to collect part of Crota’s soul from the crystal destroyed in The Dark Below quest line. All seems to be going well, a little too well. Bungie throw in a new twist to the end of the mission that shows that they are prepared to turn Destiny tried and tested formula on its head in order to make a memorable mission.

GTA V Update – Rockstar Editor on Consoles!

GTAV

In all the excitement last week of The Taken King. I almost forgot that Rockstar released the latest GTA V update. The new update added Freemode events to GTA Online. These freemode events are activities you can just jump straight into with out having to enter tedious lobbies or matchmaking. I have not tried these out yet. This is because I have been to engrossed in the other edition to PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA V, The Rockstar Editor.

Destiny: The Taken King – New Gameplay

DestinyTK

After an unexpected 18GB patch download, that PSN handled pretty well for a change. It was time at about 22:00 last night to get stuck into the new Destiny expansion. I have mentioned in my last post about the many changes brought in for year two. The major change for The Taken King expansions is something that was missing from year one. That feature is storytelling!

Take a look at the opening to the game in the video below (about 17 mins in). The opening cinematic is more epic than the entire of Destiny. It actually explains more story that the entire of Destiny as well. Then, we cut to Phobos and a Cabal base under attack from a mysterious force. This opening to The Taken King brings back the Halo days for me. Wandering into the unknown from set piece to set piece until all hell breaks loose and you are fighting to survive. Well done Bungie, this is the game I wanted to play!

Destiny: The Taken King Out Today!

DestinyTK

Destiny… Its been quite a first year. After getting hooked to the Alpha and subsequent Beta, I was desperate to get mu hands on the full experience on 9th September last year. It didn’t let me down and Destiny became my game of choice for almost 6 months, which is incredible for a gamer like me. I went through the main story, then hit level 20. I even persevered with the Light system and managed to grind my way to high enough level to try out the Vault of Glass. I got halfway through with the fireteam I was with first time and it took another couple of months to be able to find the time to retry it.
